10/29/2019- Another Fincantieri Marinette Marine-built warship has been commissioned into the US Navy. LCS 17, the USS Indianapolis, was commissioned in Burns Harbor, Indiana Saturday, officially placing the ship into active service. The Freedom-variant LCS was launched in April of 2018 and officials with Lockheed Martin say her speed, flexibility, and lethality bring a unique set of capabilities to the Navy fleet. There are seven other ships in various stages of production and test at the local shipyard. The next Freedom-variant in the class is LCS 19, the future USS St. Louis, which is on track to begin sea trials later this year.
