08/11/2020- Another warship constructed locally has officially joined the fleet of the U.S. Navy. Littoral Combat Ship 19, the USS St. Louis, was commissioned at a private event Saturday at its homeport Naval Station Mayport. It’s the seventh ship to bear the St. Louis name in the last 200 years and Admiral Craig Faller, commander of U.S. Southern Command, said the LCS has proven to be an effective and adaptable platform capable of multiple missions in his area of responsibility. The Marinette Marine-built St. Louis is the 22nd LCS to be delivered to the Navy, and the tenth of the Freedom-variant to join the fleet.
