07/20/2018- The new proposed name for Marinette’s U-W campus is revealed. Operating under guidelines provided by the U-W System, a working group comprised of members from UW-Green Bay and its three new branch campuses have recommended renaming the local school the University of Wisconsin Green Bay- Marinette Campus. Ben Joniaux is the Chancellor’s Chief of Staff and Legislative Liaison for UWGB. He says allowing Marinette to maintain their history and identity in the new name while still recognizing it as a full member of UWGB was a top priority.
Joniaux made his presentation to the Marinette County Executive Committee Thursday. The committee forwarded a recommendation to approve the name change to the full county board for final consideration. Pending that approval, the proposal will then be passed along to the U-W Board of Regents in August. The plan to merge all UW two-year colleges with existing four-year institutions was announced last fall and officially took effect July 1st. Under the merger, UW-Marinette, UW-Manitowoc, and UW-Sheboygan have all become branch campuses of UW-Green Bay.
