11/13/2018- It was a historic turnout in Marinette for last week’s fall election. City Clerk Lana Bero says the lines for the polls were long at the City’s UW Fieldhouse where more than 2600 residents cast their votes. With early, absentee, and day-of ballots combined, it’s estimated over 60% of Marinette’s eligible voting population took part- even higher than Wisconsin’s state average of 59%
Bero says it was likely the increased media coverage and candidate visibility that led to better voter education and interest in the election.
Bero says the physical location of the polls within the Fieldhouse and the high turnout did create some bottle-necking issues at the doorway and left some voters standing out in the rain. She anticipates these issues will be resolved when the city’s polling location is moved to Marinette’s Community REC Center following the completion of that facility.
Voter Turnout in Marinette around 60%
