38-year-old, Joshua John Meyers of Wilson, Michigan was sentenced yesterday in 41st Circuit Court by Honorable Christopher S. Ninomiya for the August 28, 2021, assault, and strangulation of his girlfriend Jenna Nicole LaFave.  LaFave reported the incident to Menominee County Sheriff Deputy, Vincent Studer, on August 29, 2021, that her live-in boyfriend, Meyers, had beaten and strangled her to the point of unconsciousness at their home in Wilson. Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney, Jeffrey Rogg says, “this was a vulnerable Native American woman who, I believe, Mr. Meyers carefully selected.”

Rogg says, “Meyers has been convicted of seven prior assaults of offenses in other jurisdictions as well as serving a term of two to four years in Delta County for his last assault.”

Meyers had just been released from parole for a felonious assault conviction a mere eight days before committing this offense. Meyers was twice previously convicted of a domestic violence offense along with 20 criminal convictions, six for assault and domestic violence.
