02/26/2019- The American Red Cross is experiencing a severe shortage of blood and is urging all donors to consider giving to ensure lifesaving patient care isn’t impacted this winter. Red Cross representatives say they currently have less than a three-day supply of most blood types, and blood products are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. Because Type O negative blood can be transfused to patients with any blood type, it is the most in-demand type and often has the most limited supply. Recent snowstorms and severe weather locally and in many other parts of the country have forced hundreds of blood drive cancellations, causing more than 20,000 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected. There are a number of blood drives being planned in Marinette, Menominee, and Delta Counties in March. To see a list of times and locations or to schedule an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org.
