11/21/2018- The average American will consume about three-thousand calories during their Thanksgiving celebration this year, but the local YMCA can help you get a head start on burning off that feast. The annual Turkey Trot 5K will be held tomorrow morning beginning at the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA. Allison Bickel is the Community Engagement Director at the Y. She says this time of year, many people struggle to find the motivation to get active, but this free event is aimed at bringing families and the community together to create a healthier holiday season.
There’s no cost to register for the run, but the Y is asking participants to make a non-perishable food donation. While most families will gather around a table filled with food this Thanksgiving, Bickel says that’s not the case for everyone and all donations benefit those local families in need.
Day-of registration for the YMCA Turkey Trot opens at 7:00 AM and the run/walk starts at 8:00. And, participants can skip right to dessert tomorrow with a free pumpkin pie donated by Jack’s Fresh Market being offered to the first 100 people signed up.
