The upcoming year’s budget was presented to Marinette’s Finance Committee for the first time Tuesday. The 2021budget is operationally similar to 2020, but was hamstrung by a lack of new growth, an issue similar to what the county as a whole saw this year. Marinette Finance Director Jackie Miller says that, along with a decrease in assessed valuation for manufacturing limited their financials.

Mayor Steve Genisot says the new budget isn’t proposing any major departmental cuts and adds while the full financial impact of COVID-19 has yet to be seen, he believes the City will come out the other side of the pandemic in fair shape.

The 2021 budget draft won’t be complete until the City receives final figures from the state later this month. That document is available for review at City Hall or on Marinette’s website and will go to public hearing December 1st.
