City officials are pondering changes in trash pickup in the coming year. Beginning in March 2024, they will issue each resident of the City of Menominee and small businesses a 93-gallon trash cart to put their garbage in. Each cart will have identifying information linking it to a particular address. Special arms lift the carts on the trucks. Information will be coming soon to residents about the change. However, this still leaves bulk pickup. City Manager Brett Botbyl says, “in my opinion, the direction of the council is that we’re not going to have the bulk pickup just due to the fact that it’s probably going to be cost prohibitive, anyway.”

Botbyl says, “there’s going to be a transition and we are going to proceed with a basically modifying the contract with GFL to go from the bag to the cart pickup.”

The new trash carts are 45 inches tall, with two wheels for pulling to the curb. Cost per extra cart will be $75. Most cities have moved over to the trash cart system, including the border city, Marinette.
